Over 20 years ago, I began helping children with developmental disabilities as an Occupational Therapist. Neuroplasticity led me to create a program called the HOPE method, which is a neurodevelopmental approach to therapy, based on the principles of brain development. This method provides professionals a framework upon which to build clinical reasoning to treat clients. It provides parent and their families a clear path to positive therapy outcomes. I’m humbled by the incredible results I’ve seen in the children we’ve helped. It melted my heart to see the looks on the faces of the parents of my clients, when their children showed so much dramatic improvements.
However, over the years, I also noticed that some of the children would return to the center with their newly acquired skills intact but they were just not using them. This sent me back to the books. How could brain science explain this? The answer was environment.
Although the children changed, the parents didn’t. The parents were hurting, they didn’t understand that their children needed them to evolve and build better behaviors just as they did. That is when I created the What About You (WAY) program, so that parents could have the tools to reroute their own brain patterns and behaviors so they could
foster and support their children’s development. The parents who engaged in this process reported over the years that this program not only changed them as parents but as people. In ALL aspects of their lives…at work, at home and in their marriages.
The WAY program has grown and now incorporates not just parents at our world-renowned TheraPeeds Family Center, but anyone that wants to have changes in their behaviors that last and allow them to better navigate the wiring in the brain that hijacks and impedes their ability to function at their best in any area of their lives.
I’ve always followed my gut. Back in the days when I was still trying to control my work and family life, I knew at the gut level that there was another way. I wanted to find that WAY. I became a certified Martha Beck Life Coach, I’m a certified Daring Way facilitator and I spent years training with and studying the work of people like Byron Katie, Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and Dr. Wayne Dyer to name a few.
I love this work, but I wanted to figure out how to join the science of neuroplasticity to the language of self-awareness.
I wanted to know how to use brain science to help enhance awareness so we could retrain healthy minds and behavior.
The WAY method and program is a culmination of this work and years of scientific research. My team of coaches and I help individuals that are seeking to develop the brain changing patterns that break hard-wired neurological habits. We harness the power of neuroplasticity and self-awareness to sustain healthy behaviors, attitudes and skills that offer lasting benefits.
I’ve been speaking at venues throughout the world for over twenty years and with my direct, powerful and compelling tools, attendees always leave inspired and able to take steps to retrain their brain, break habits and DO something different.
Whether talking to a group of clinicians, providing a parenting workshop or inspiring a group of businesswomen, I will speak the truth kindly. For the people that attend my speaking events, hearing the truth always liberates and inspires. I also like to have fun while I do it! So if you are attending one of my events soon, get ready to laugh, I know I will.
I’ve been described as bold, funny, exciting and dynamic! Most important, I’m practical. EVERY talk provides practical information that gives you action steps. My audiences always leave with a good dose of home-grown wisdom (e.g. “my grandmother always said…”), mixed with science, backed up by evidence from the current research, and with a nice helping of my professional and personal life experiences.
It is my intention to empower and change, EVERYTIME
As the founder and owner of Therapeeds Family Center, a globally recognized company, I employ over 55 people and I’m constantly looking for ways to improve and enhance our service offering. A lot of hard work went into creating this multi-national business, and the company is committed to providing the highest quality developmental and educational services to families, children, parents, individuals and therapists.
TheraPeeds provides intervention for both children and adults, with the goal of maximizing functioning potential.
To reach this goal, I created two therapeutic models that exist side by side to support function: the H.O.P.E. (Harper’s Optimal Protocols for Enrichment) Method and the W.A.Y. (What About You) Model. Together these models exist at the heart of my work. Every client walking through the doors of TheraPeeds is offered 'A W.A.Y. to H.O.P.E'. It is my passion to strive for the best outcomes for myself and for all the lives I touch daily.
I write. I write because it’s a tool for me to speak to me and for me to speak to others. Every morning I journal, as it offers me a chance to reflect on the thoughts that are constantly flowing through my mind and identify the most authentic and genuine thoughts that allow me to offer insight and growth to others. I have written multiple published articles and am so excited to soon be sharing my upcoming book with you all! Sshhhh it’s still a secret. Stay tuned on this, more to come.
One of the most important reasons I wanted to find a different WAY to be is because I am a wife and mother. I wanted to show up full throttle in the lives of my family and too many times my hidden reactive brain patterns interrupted my ability to be the best wife and mother.
I fill with joy when I see my young adult daughter dancing in a school talent competition or accepting an award. I wanted to be fully there for her and not worrying about what was next on my list of things to do. When my teenage son was racing across the finish line at a triathlon competition, I wanted him to have a mother who saw his accomplishment and
was not concerned about others.
I wanted to be in my life when I was packing lunch boxes, doing laundry and going to the grocery. Being in my life means keeping up with the latest trends with my children and planning family vacations. My family means more to me than anything, and I’m sure yours does to.
In the midst of all that I do, I stop my mind from racing and I use self-awareness to really connect with my husband of over 21 years to enjoy dinner or a chat. I don’t let an untrained brain cause me to miss the the sweetness of the moment of lying in bed reading Guess How Much I Love You and
Love You Forever to my teenagers.
Finding a WAY to train my brain and break my reactive habits has changed my life and how I am with my family. I know what it means to me. I want that for you too.
As a woman I know joy, happiness, love and gratitude, while I am also deeply familiar with guilt, pain, suffering, sadness, and frustration. Thankfully, as part of my process of getting out of my own way, I’ve learned how to sit in silence and how to get back to peace. I have learned to truly appreciate and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Yet I continue to take on new challenges and push others to challenge themselves.
Giving to others is the best gift I can receive. I am passionate about helping individuals live beyond their limitations, whether those limits are physical, mental, emotional…real or perceived.
As a student of life, I learn from all those who touch my life. For me, serving life with my whole heart is my greatest joy. I bring nothing but ultimate passion and commitment to pursuing this as my life’s work.
